Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (7)

Ever wondered what a makeup artist has in their kit?? When it comes to makeup and beauty products, it is never enough. As a professional makeup artist, I am constantly testing and trying out new products for my kit. When clients and models ask for advise on great products to buy, I find myself constantly referring them to my top 10 products I take with me on location. At times when I have to down size and pack products for traveling from my usual heavy-duty makeup trolley, you’ll be sure to find these essentials in my kit.

Homeoplasmine

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (2)

Known as a Makeup Artist secret weapon. Homeoplasmine is the French version of Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream. A multi-purpose non-greasy, matte homeopathic ointment that soothes protects and moisturizes. This amazing ointment turns dull, dry and irritated skin into hydrated, glowing skin. It also transforms dry flaky lips into soft, kissable lips. I stock up on this product as it really does make a difference.

L’Oréal Skin Perfection Miracle Cleansing Oil

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (3)

Tried and tested many cleansers but I keep coming back to L’Oreal’s Miracle Cleansing oil.  What I love about this product is the fact it is lightweight oil and does the job in 15 sec. It works on dry skin and rinses clean with water removing makeup, dirt, and oil with a refreshing citrus fragrance. There’s nothing nicer than working the product into the skin and watching it break down make up, mascara and all. I have worked with many models and they can be quite fussy with products used in cleansing their skin, with this product I am yet to meet a model that doesn’t like it.

Johnsons Q-tips

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (2)

Cotton buds are very inexpensive and they really come handy when you have to clean up rough edges or remove make up smudges that have transferred onto any unwanted areas of the face. A great idea would be to soak the tip in a bit of make up remover for a quick smudge remover.

Lip scrub and Carmex

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (5)

Quiet a few people suffer from chapped lips and applying lip products whilst it is this state isn’t very flattering. I would usually deal with the issue by using home made exfoliator to scrub the lips, apply mixture on the lips and massage gently before wiping off with a clean wet cloth or facial wipes. There are many lip exfoliating brands in the market, but I have grown so used to making my own from scratch. Once the lips have been prepped, apply Carmex to keep them hydrated and moisturised. For a quick DIY you can easily take half a tea spoon of white sugar mixed with half a tea spoon of salt, mixed with coconut oil to create a quick paste.  To avoid having to make this mixture every time, you can stash away in small Tupperware container and refrigerate.

Dual Sharpener (L’Oréal)

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (3)

A pencil sharpener seems like a no brainer to some, but is highly important when working with an array of different sized eyeliners, shadow bases and lip liners. I like to use L’Oreal Grind House sharpener because it is equipped with a dual entries, which are suited for both small and larger pencils. I am a big fan of multi-functional products like these; they do make keeping a kit compact a little easier.

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (6)

Tweezers can assist you in shaping the unruly hairs on your clients face. They are also great for applying fake eyelashes. Once you try the Eyebrow shaper, you’ll never want to go near a tweezers again. I try not to run out before stocking upon them. I love them because they work really quick and are complete pain free.

Makeup+Beauty+Must+Have+Zen+Magazine (5)

In my kit you’ll find Ben Nye Matte Foundation palette. To match my clients skin tone, I scoop a tiny amount from the any pot and mix for a precise match. A long lasting blend when applied and a must have for my photo shoots. What I love about this palette is that is stays on without melting from the photographers lighting. I normally use this product with a great moisturizer and face primer. I find that I only retouch only around the smile lines if I have to retouch or around the lips
