This month is the craziest month of my entire life in 5 years as editor of Zen Magazine Africa, and I hope you will agree with me when I say Africa is uniquely blessed with a vast abundance of creative individuals spread across the world. Whoever said Africa was a dark continent has never really been to Africa. From the way we dress to the different languages and sounds, Africa is a vibrant continent filled with life.

Bonang Matheba’s story is an excellent example of how determination and drive can lead you to fulfilment of your dreams. Back in the July, we reached out to Bonang to get photographs for her cover and interview feature. Of course, we were flattered when she agreed to be involved, and so began scheduling the month; how it would look like and finally deciding on the cover image. That simple description in no way does justice to the amount of time, effort and diplomacy that Bonang’s team put into making this whole cover happen. This month Zen Magazine gets exclusive access into Bonang’s life. A proud African, born in South Africa, lover of fashion, brand ambassador for Revlon Cosmetics and Woolworths Lingerie Designer “Bonang For Distraction”. Bonang is an inspirational woman whose intelligence and imagination has made her South Africa’s IT girl. Learn more about her journey which started at the age of 15 and find out where it all changed for her.

On the subject of beauty, we have an amazing submission in this month’s issue called ‘Bold Lip Looks‘  which was sent in by UK based photographer Sophie Abbott of SNA Photography. This month’s biggest beauty statement is a rich, bold lip, so don’t be left behind ladies!!

Like the rest of us who are constantly on Instagram following Africa’s hottest celebrities, our style team have 2 Instagram style battles featuring Tiwa Savage VS Terry Pheto and Jackie Appiah VS Rita Dominic. If you fancy getting some fabulous new luxury leather handbags, then be sure to check out our feature on Ethiopian fashion label, ZAAF, as it launches its’ Spring/Summer 2015 collection.

Finally, you may have already noticed that the Zen website is looking  a bit different. This is thanks to our Head of IT, Jacob Ekanem, who has given your favourite features, fashion stories, social media integration, and beauty articles a design overhaul. I hope you like it as much as I do. As always, please let us know what you think about the cover and which stories tickle your fancy. Be sure to check out the articles “Top Safari Lodges and Camps in Namibia” and “Big Brother Africa Returns” by Kenyan-based writer, Hariett Owalla.
