Auma Obama, patron of the Africa Fashion Day Berlin, says: “Africa is increasingly seen as a continent with complex cultures and traditions which generates unique and distinct talents. In many ways, Africa can and must be regarded as an equal partner in the creative sector by now. Africa Fashion Day Berlin is an excellent example for this development. It is perfectly suited to demonstrate Africa’s growing self-awareness and presence on the world stage.”

Journalists and photographers will have the opportunity to interact with our designers at a press conference with a photo call at 12 pm at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

We will gladly facilitate interviews with our patron Dr. Auma Obama. Please request interviews in advance by emailing our press contact.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development has supported an exhibition with photographs of creations from designers who participated in our runway show in January. The exhibition can be viewed at the premises of the Ministry.

Please join us after the show for an exclusive soirée at the Hotel Indigo Berlin Ku’damm to get to know the designers and other representatives from the African fashion industry.

In co-operation with Africa Fashion Day Berlin, Germany’s Foreign Office has invited a delegation of fashion journalists, bloggers, designers and other members of the fashion scene from several African countries to attend our soirée.

Africa Fashion Day Berlin is a unique communication platform that represents the high-end lifestyle segment of the fashion scene from Africa and the African diaspora in Germany. We bring fashion on the catwalk that is modern and cosmopolitan. Our designers are inspired by their individual visions as well as global trends from across the world.

We aim:

• To introduce designers from Africa and the African diaspora to the German fashion industry and to promote fashion from Africa and the diaspora which is diverse, young, urban, and combines high-quality standards with a global orientation;

• To establish a networking platform and to foster knowledge exchange between fashion designers and producers from Africa, the Caribbean and Europe;

• To support the production of fashion and accessories in African countries according to fair-trade and social standards.

Beatrace Angut Oola, founder of Africa Fashion Day Berlin, says: “For us, it is important to introduce a new perspective to the prevailing fashion landscape in Germany. The young and modern African fashion scene is without any doubt an enrichment to the Berlin Fashion Week.”
