With the Miss Afro Beauty 2014 Pageant just a few days away, local contestants are kicking into high gear as they get ready to compete for this year’s crown. The Miss Afro Beauty is a Miss England pageant for women of colour. Founded by Cameroonian beauty queen, 18 year old Ruth Mukete, who is also a previous Miss England contender and current Miss Leicestershire, the MAB stands as a social platform aimed at empowering, encouraging and supporting young women of African or Caribbean descent in the UK. ‘‘Miss Afro Beauty provides all finalists access to career and business mentorship in addition to the winner being fast-tracked to the grand finale of Miss England 2014.” says the founder Ruth Mukete. “Miss Afro Beauty is a pageant, not just about beauty, it is about wholeness. To nurture and encourage positive growth in women. Empowering them to become what they have always wanted to be. We encourage education, self awareness, etiquette and decorum.”

Backed by Miss England and various local businesses, Miss Afro Beauty aims to raise the profile of young black women in entertainment; predominantly but not restricted to pageants. Other supporters include, Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam & Diana Tambe- Blackpearl, Bisila Bokoko- Global Brand Ambassador, the Leicester Mercury, More Restaurant Leicester, Mem SAAB Leicester and various others.
