Our top 3 looks from Mille Collines at Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Africa 2012

Last year’s Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Africa was such a fantastic and historical show that people all over the world are still talking about the fashion on display till this very day. One of the fashion brands that stood out for us was a fashion label run by two Spanish designers inspired by Africa. Inés Cuatrecasas Barcelo and Marc Oliver are the amazing designers behind the fashion label Mille Collines. The brand was born in Rwanda in the spring of 2009 after an inspirational visit to the country by Inés and since that very day, the brand has grown from strength to strength. The designers presented the new edition of their apparel line for the first time ever at Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Africa and their latest edition highlighted African designs with a mix of western cuts on a range of cotton and polyester apparels topped with embroidered African motifs.

It has become a priority for us to contribute to the economic development of Rwanda while changing the existing image of products made in Africa, not only in Rwanda but in other countries around the world says Inés Cuatrecasas Barcelo

The collections of the brand feed from two strong and very different influences “global fashion trends and essence of African tradition”. Every piece is unique and made by the same person. The brand is known for its fine details and for its shapes that remind you of African wrapping. Seams covered on the insides which become a part of every piece’s beauty; waistbands and necklines made with African prints and buttons, handmade in sisal and pewter.

The company’s headquarters is located in the center of the city of Kigalicapital of Rwanda.
