The Africans at the GlobeFrom left to right: Chiwetel Ejiofor, Idris Elba, Lupita Nyong’o and Barkhad Abdi

It’s definitely nominations season in Hollywood and the African stars are sure feeling the love. Just 24 hours after being nominated for a SAG Award in Los Angeles, Lupita Nyong’o, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Barkhad Abdi have just been nominated for awards at the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards. Also nominated for a Globe was Idris Elba for his role in the epic movie Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and in the series Luther. The nominations were announced live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel yesterday and below are the full list of nominees and the categories. Our favourite category is definitely the Best Actor in a Drama where we will see Idris Elba battle it out with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tom Hanks, Matthew McConaughey, and Robert Redford for the award. The 2 guys also battle out in the Best Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie category alongside Matt DamonMichael Douglas, and Al PacinoSomething tells me Idris may win 1 of these nominations though that’s just a lucky guess.
