Zen Magazine: Where were you born?
Destiny: I was born in Arlington, Virginia.

Zen Magazine: How did you get started as a model?
Destiny: I started modeling all thanks to my good friend and photographer Daryl Hall Jr. Without him I probably wouldn’t even be modeling today. We did a random photoshoot one day in downtown Fredericksburg and at that moment, modeling became more than just a hobby for me.

Zen Magazine: How long have you been modelling?
Destiny: I’ve been modeling for 2½ years now.

Zen Magazine: In your opinion, what makes a good fashion model?
Destiny: In my opinion, a good fashion model is one who can show a variety of different looks in her work and still look hot in them. For example a model who can do commercial, high fashion, sports, beauty, and the list continues, is a heck of a model to me. Oh and of course she got to know how to pose her butt off too!

Zen Magazine: What made you want to become a model?
Destiny: I wanted to become a model because the love and feedback I received from my first shoot was nothing but great! It made me think about taking it seriously for once and actually showing/proving to everybody I do have what it takes.

Campbell” says Destiny Owusu

Zen Magazine: How did you feel when you did your fist ever fashion shoot?
Destiny: When I did my first ever shoot I was so nervous! I didn’t know if I could really pose and/or if I would look flat out dumb. I didn’t have a wardrobe stylist, hair stylist, or makeup artist so I didn’t know what to expect. It was an experience I’ll never forget. With practice comes growth.

Zen Magazine: Which fashion models are your role models?
Destiny: Everyone knows my fashion role model is Naomi Campbell! I am so in love her! She’s just so confident and divine! Following her I also love Joan Smalls, Jourdan Dunn, Nykhor Paul, and Cara Delevingne.

Zen Magazine: Which designers do you enjoy working with?
Destiny: I’ve haven’t had the opportunity to work with as much designers as I would like to but I did love working with Msc Treasures! Their African print clothing line gave me life!

Zen Magazine: Which designers would you love to work with? Why?
Destiny: I would love to work with David Tlale, Oliver Rousteing, Kanye West, Vera Wang, and Calvin Klein.

Zen Magazine: Do you follow African fashion?
Destiny: I’ve started following African Fashion a couple of months ago. I hope to be more involved with African designers and magazines.

Zen Magazine: Describe African fashion in 4 words.
Destiny: In four words, African fashion is: exhilarating, colorful, historic, and mesmerized.

Zen Magazine: In your view, what makes African fashion so unique?
Destiny: African fashion is very unique because of our great prints and pattern! They are very striking and you can’t help but to stare and just get lost in the craft of it all.

Zen Magazine: What are the key things every aspiring model needs to know before choosing to become a model?
Destiny: The key things every aspiring model needs to know before coming a model are: Be confident in yourself, you need to have tough skin in this industry or it will break you, never ever give up, be consistent with your craft and always LOVE what you do!

Zen Magazine: What do you look forward to most this upcoming season?
Destiny: This season I look forward to working with some great designers and photographers everybody doesn’t know of. This year will be different.

Zen Magazine: Do you have any beauty rituals you take part in to keep your skin looking fresh?
Destiny: As to keeping my face clear and smooth, I wash my face every day with Dove Beauty Bar; then once a week I use Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Face Mask “You can find it on Sephora”.

Zen Magazine: Single or Dating.
Destiny: I’m currently dating someone.

Zen Magazine: You have a spontaneous date tonight and no time to go out shopping. What do you wear?
Destiny: Well if I have a spontaneous date but don’t have the time to go out and shop, I’ll just wear a nice fitted, chick black dress (which I’ll probably get from Express or ZARA) with some white heels to make my outfit pop. I’m a very simple girl and I love neutral colors. Simplicity goes a long way in fashion.

Zen Magazine: Tomorrow, you get a free plane ticket to go anywhere in the world. Where do you go?
Destiny: If I got a free plane ticket to go anywhere in the world, I’ll go to Dubai!

Zen Magazine: Fashion week approaches. Which shows are you looking to be a part of?
Destiny: Fashion week approaches, I would love to be a part of Kanye West, VFiles, Balmain, and Ryan Roche show.

Zen Magazine: What do you think about Zen Magazine Africa?
Destiny: I think Zen Magazine Africa is a great magazine and I love what it stands for! I’m so here for the beautiful, African, melanin Queens!
