Gugu Khumalo’s Trunk & Cast Fashion Night Out Experience
There are a number of fashion events, fashion get-togethers and networking events going on in Johannesburg this month, and the lovely Gugu Khumalo went in search of Fashion for our fashion readers.
In Gugu’s words
In Johannesburg, one can never run out of places to shop with a dozen shopping malls to choose from we are spoilt for choice, but here’s the catch they all house the same shops brands or the rent is steep for young local brands to possibly be able to afford. Then there is the option of destination shopping in the suburbs, which is fantastic and the finds there are one of a kind and best of all most likely local. With talent bursting through the seams in this town this forces the customer to become more stylistic and experimental with what and where they purchase. This then filters back to the creative and designers to be innovative in what and how they present to consumers. With all that the trend of ‘Pop Store/Market’ shopping experience was born.
This gives more than just going in and picking the perfect new item to be added to your wardrobe, it adds socializing with alike shoppers, it gives a business to customer communication line going, all this in a relaxed non-pressured sales perspective. Sure it isn’t a new concept exclusive to Joburgers, it has been tried and tested across the world. It opens up the world that was always thought to have belonged to only creative and ‘artsy’ people, allowing sub-culture interaction.
So being the curious cat that I am I decided to just jump on the trending train, with my first stop being at the Trunks&Cast Pop Up Store ‘@boogymaboi‘ at the Dance Juxion in Rosebank, Johannesburg. I have to give kudos to the team that put this little shindig together it was fantastic. Their sense of style and creativity, blew my mind away. They had an eclectic mix of designers, from recycling vintage designer Jessica Rayne ‘@JessicaRayne2‘, who takes vintage clothing and gives them new life. Then there was Roxy Ferreira, of Parooz fashions ’@paroozfashions)’ her sense of style had a modern flare. Scrabbyl ‘@scrabbyl‘ was quirky with them housing the new lego jewellery line. Then with a hot DJ bumping tunes I couldn’t help but find myself busting a move or two. Which is what made it great, it catapulted the mundane shopping trip, to a party a great party filled with one of a kind fashions.
The night was an all round ball of fun, with an outrageous mix of people coming by to get their fashion fix and to meet other fashion-minded individuals
