Author and Poet, Brittney M. Grimes

Meet 22-year-old Brittney M. Grimes - an experienced model, motivational speaker, published author and poet. Brittney comes from Long Island, New York and was born in Flushing, Queens. At 12 years old, Brittney competed and won the 2002 McDonald’s Gospelfest first ever Poetry Category. In October 2006, she was featured in Ebony Magazine in the article “Terrific Teens: Young Achievers Showcase Exceptional Talent”. By 17, she won the “Avon Make Your Mark” Contest, sponsored by Avon Makeup and Seventeen Magazine. Brittney got inspired into modelling by noticing that modelling, itself, was an incorporation of the arts “Modelling for me was another excellent creative outlet to express myself says Brittney”. Since becoming a model, she has walked the runways of Africa Fashion Week NY (AFWNY 2011), been featured in a National JBS Hair Advertisement, appeared in Ebony Magazine, Seventeen Magazine, Elle Magazine and GLAMOUR Magazine and has published four children books: “Poetry for a Child By a Child” (1998), “Poetry for a Child by a Child, Workbook” (2000), “Ice Cream Dreams” (2002), and “The True Glory of the Christmas Story” (2004).

Brittney loves writing, performing her poetry, drawing and playing the violin. She has received numerous awards for her poetry skills, including the National Organization for Women (NOW) “Young Women of Achievement” Award, the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) Award for Achievement and Leadership and the Zora Neale Hurston Literary Award for Literature and has received letters from President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and former President George W. Bush jr, encouraging her to keep writing and moving forward in the arts.

I love expressing myself through words and modelling. I have been blessed with the opportunity to model and to be a poetess /speaker. I will continue to follow in the path where God and my dreams lead me says.. Brittney

Brittney is an incredibly eloquent young woman and is definitely one of the future leaders of tomorrow. She is currently writing more poetry and working on releasing a novel sometime real soon. We shall keep you all posted on the release of her novel.
